Hello, I'm
Yvonne Yow.

Looking for my next opportunity to make a difference.

About me

I am a language enthusiast and my love for Chinese in particular pushed me to take up the Diploma in Chinese Studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I then went on to study at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese with Honours (Distinction). My final year project titled The Aspectual Function of zhu in Singapore Spoken Mandarin was awarded the Lotus on Water Book Prize.

In my free time, I find joy in watching videos and learning new languages. I am now actively picking up the Thai language.

I currently work for my alma mater, NTU, as a Senior Executive for the Masters of Arts in Translation and Interpretation (MTI) Programme. I am involved in a whole spectrum of the programme matters which include which includes handling the annual admission exercise, maintaining the programme’s website and managing Continuing Education and Training (CET) courses catered to working adults and government officers.

However, we hope to remind people that real life interaction is equally important in maintaining relationships.

This 30-second radio ad (practice) was brainstormed, recorded, produced and edited by myself. This ad aims to attract listeners to visit Dialogue in the Dark (Singapore) to experience everyday situations in complete darkness.

News articles

It all started off as a search notice.

Wu came to us with the intention of finding her two long lost elder sisters and I was tasked to work on this.

After my article went on the streets, I received a call from Wu saying that her 3rd elder sister whom she didn't know had existed contacted her instead. I have followed up with a few more articles and eventually, Wu managed to reunite with her 3 elder sisters.

The development and outcome of the search notice was indeed unexpected. It was really my pleasure to have used my words to record the wonderful moment of reunion.

Initially, I was tasked to interview the stall owners and consumers on their expectations of the upcoming Chinese New Year Bazaar at Chinatown.

While speaking to the stall owners, I found out that the Spring Street car park, which is located nearby the upcoming bazaar will temporarily closed down to facilitate the reconfiguration works of the Thomson-East Coast Line Maxwell station.

This sparked my interest to find out more on the reactions of stall owners at the vicinity might have, especially those at Maxwell Food Centre as they would be directly affected by this temporary closure.

This trip to Chinatown taught me to stay alert as news ideas are everywhere, just waiting to be discovered.
